Sleep Disorders | Sleep Your Way to a Younger You

We all know how sleep is an important factor in our lives. Without it, we won’t be able to do much. Sleep may just come so naturally that we don't give it much thought.

After all, it’s something we have to do to reenergize our bodies. It's only when we lack sleep that it becomes apparent just how much we need it.

When we don’t get enough rest, we can’t function. We are pretty much useless throughout the day. Aside from that, we are more irritable.

Any little thing could set us off, and for the most trivial matters, we could get irritated.

Sleep is for more than just rest. Yes, its primary function is to give our bodies time to recharge and regain that much needed energy.

Doctors actually recommend that that we all get at least seven to nine hours of sleep every night. Just because we are no longer growing children, some of us may assume that we could do with little sleep.

That, of course, is not true. In fact, the older we get, the more sleep we should have.

When you don’t get a great night’s rest, you end up forgetting things. Information will seem to go in one ear and out the other.

That’s because sleep allows your brain to organize all the information it stores. And just as much as you want to sleep, some of you may find it hard to drift off to dreamland.

Instead of taking medicine for it, try to get some direct sunlight during the day. When your body comes into contact with the sun’s heat, it produces melatonin, a chemical needed to sleep.

Aside from that, you should also start exercising. Why exercise, because when your body uses up its energy, you will naturally feel tired.

Yes, sleep is an important part of life. When you take it for granted, you could see yourself aging faster. For those who have gone past their prime, this is, of course, the last thing you want.

Getting the proper rest really works wonders. You will look younger and feel better about yourself.

Just to let you know, the body secretes more growth hormones when you enter into deep sleep. These hormones do the following for your body:

1. Increase and maintain bone density and muscle mass
2. Lower body fat
3. Make you feel more active and youthful
4. Help your body heal and repair itself
5. Regulate your metabolism

Simply put, these hormones work hard to make sure that your body functions at its optimal level. Tendency is that you will always feel alive and young.

In the same way, not getting enough sleep reduces the secretion of hormone leptin. This hormone tells the brain when to stop eating and when it’s had enough.

In gist, while sleep may not be the only solution to making you feel younger and more active, it does play a big part.

To fully take care of your body and overall healthy, you also need to consider the time you spend for rest.
